Please remove the ads from Youtube music for Gogle Music subscribers again! The ads came back when you launched Youtube Red which isn't available to me.
THIS!!!! Really, I want the ability for a Chromecast Audio to be usable with a Chromecast 2 device that is plugged into a TV. This, would be the ultimate setup for my home automation!
Will this affect the device limit? I still have a rather large number of devices that I use to access my account. Will this decrease the number of devices per user, or does each user get a set number of devices that they can access the service on?
so what you are saying is that as a paying subscriber, i can only use 1 user, and the only way for me to share my account with one other person(my wife) is to pay the subscription for 6 people? i think this is a pretty huge oversight on Google's part, especially to users (like myself) that have been using play music since day one.
@Unknown, It's not an oversight, because it's still cheaper than signing your wife up for her own subscription @$10 month. Even with the early adopter discount for google play music, you'd still be saving money. It's just distinguishing between people using it for themselves, and people using it for families.
I didn't have to cancel my current account to see the option. Under my subscription details, i saw a new button that says "upgrade to family account" or something along those lines. It seems that the people in invited to my plan did, indeed, need to cancel their current account to join my plan.
If you aren't seeing this button yet, then i assume it hasn't rolled out to you (or your area or whatever) yet.
Any idea when we can sign up on a web browser or iOs? My Rdio family plan expires in 4 days and I need to switch 5 users over. None have Android. Otherwise have to switch to Apple or Spotify and will probably never make the swap back. I can understand not signing up on iOs, but can't you keep the revenue by allowing signups online? Hell, make it only available to those signing up on Chrome with a Google+ account.
If you don't want to wait and do not have access to an android device there is another (though admittedly convoluted) solution. Install Bluestacks (an Android emulator) on your PC/Mac and sign in/manage your family plan from there.
This notice is confusing. "start offering the Google Play Music family plan today" sounds like it is actually available today, but it does not appear to be.
Where do I configure my family? On the web? Do I need android?
I also wonder if there "Any concessions for those of us who are on the early adopter pricing for Google Music?"
The only thing that sucks about this just rolling out is if you just already got charged for the regular subscription amount for this month. So we would have to pay twice for the month.
I switched mine this morning. It isn't going to bill me for the new family account until the 23rd. So I think they are giving you a partial free month of the family plan.
Yes! Google has instructions here: https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/6317786
Note that the blog post stated that it would be rolling out over the next few days, so if the option isn't showing up for you yet, you may have to wait a bit. Someone said they called and were told the US rollout should be complete by 1PM PST.
So, I can only sign up on an Android device at some point soon? What if I subscribe to Google Music, but do not own any Android devices? I may as well go back to an Apple Music family plan that I can actually purchase right now.
You add additional Google Accounts as subusers (up to five plus yourself, for a total of 6). I had the same question and confirmed it by calling Google Support.
I've got a Standard GApps and I'm guessing I'll be SOL. But reverting to my GMail account means losing everything I've built up (purchases in particular, but I don't relish uploading all my photos again either).
According to the help pages, you can't be a family manager with a Google Apps account. It does not say if you can be a family member with an apps account.
This also bummed me out to no end. Google, please reconsider this and do not bundle the standard google app account (grandfathered) as a paid business/non-profit account. I've got a family of 4 each with their own google accounts and I don't want to pay $40 a month for individual accounts!
Google Apps is for businesses. I'm not sure why people are surprised they can't be part of family plans. The entire purpose is for your BUSINESS to manage your account. They don't want your account managed by your family.
Like Chris I've had my family set up with GApps for a very, very long time (long before it was Google Apps for Business). I really wish they'd come up with some sort of 'Google Apps for Families' because I, too, and very disappointed when it comes to great features like this not being available.
I really don't understand this. Several years ago they had the "great unification" where supposedly all the problems regarding lack of functionality in Google Apps would be resolved. People were told you could finally combine accounts into your Google Apps account... which I did. Now things seem to be falling apart again... first with the Project Fi issue, now with Google Music for families. I can think of no logical reason why this should be an issue anyway. You can now have Youtube Red/Google Music on a GAPPS account. You can have Google Wallet, etc. etc. What is the issue? Regarding the comment from @Turbofool... I signed up for this when it was called Google Apps for Domains... it wasn't associated specifically with a business... the idea was if you didn't want a *.gmail.com address, you could use your own domain via Google Apps for Domains. Even if my account was business related, what's the reasoning here. Like I said earlier, you can have all kinds on "non-business" related apps now with GAPPS... this is just bizarre and arbitrary. If the APPS domain administrator doesn't have an issue, it's not an issue.
Well said Gerald Cox (and others)! I'm in the same boat as many of you. My family has been waiting for months to get this Family Plan. We've been slowly moving our playlists over from other services and cancelling other streaming accounts. I wouldn't mind so much if Google said that it was "coming soon" as they worked out the integration, but this is frustrating. Thankfully, Google has rolled out features to us over time and it's not as bad as it used to be. Hopefully they'll do the right thing.

Google Apps accounts actually work really well for families - everyone likes having their e-mail address being their name for one thing.
But if Google really doesn't want people using these accounts for other then work then they should provide a way to move gapps accounts (including history) to regular g-mail accounts.
Same as others, my family are all on my Gapps account from days when it want for business. I'm really keen to access a family account and hope that Google review their decision.
Just tried to upgrade via the music app but it says my account is not supported as I manage my family's email account via Google apps. Please tell me this is an error!?
I've been an early adopter of Gmail apps and now to be told I cannot upgrade my music account for my family shows huge disloyalty from Google. Shall I head back to Apple iTunes?
It's very frustrating being a Google Apps user. The service is always treated as a second citizen. I was very excited about this feature and now will have to reconsider. So frustrating!
Each family member can authorize up to ten devices. The authorizations are per account, so if you share a tablet with multiple sign ins, each member who uses the device will need to authorize it for their account.
The default is that if another family member tries to use the family payment method the family manager will have to approve each specific purchase. So wild teenagers are not a problem.
Are you sure ? Not what it says here https://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/6294544
"Members of your family group can make purchases on Google Play using the family payment method without your approval. You'll get an email notification each time a family member makes a purchase with the family payment method. "
This is an important but if information. From what I'm reading I can lock them out of making unauthorized in app purchases, but they can still use my card to buy all the movies, apps and magazine subscriptions they want without my consent. No way!

Ditto. Seems to me that if the cost to "upgrade" for a regular price individual subscription to the family is only $5/month, it would only be fair that for early subscribers it should only cost us an extra $5/month ($12.99) to upgrade to a family subscription now. Google, we all know you're the greatest service going, please make this happen!
My Google Apps [domain] is owned by me. I don't see any issues here. If they want to get rid of all the "free" users then either provide the means to transition off or create something like a "Google Apps for Families" for us folks to use. I'd gladly pay some sort of reasonable fee, just not as expensive as the Business side.
I would love it if Google would add the kind of library sharing that Apple does, so when I purchase an album without a monthly subscription, I can share it with my wife as well.
Wait, if I do this, my kids can buy unlimited content on Google Play using my payment method and I can't restrict that? Insane. I've been looking forward to this for months, but this is a potential dealbreaker...
The documentation seems pretty clear that in-app purchases work how you describe, but not media/content purchases from the Play Store (books, movies, music, etc)
My son and husband both have individual Google Music accounts. Will they lose their playlists and thumbs ups if I upgrade to a family plan, they join, and cancel their individual accounts?
My view on the puts and takes of this implementation, in points: +5 points - Family Plan in Canada!!! Thank you! Wife's and mine subscriptions at $7.99/month each would translate in a saving of $1/m and we can add the kids to the account! -2 points - No YouTube Red in Canada; ads came back to YouTube too -1 point - I'll lose my $2 off for signing up at day one -1 point - Wife will also lose her $2 off for signing up at day one (well, day 2 maybe) So far, it's worth it. But: -1000 points - My kids can now purchase Google Play content?!?!? And I can't stop them? Really Google???? Someone tell me I'm not not understanding how that works.
I assume it is an attempt to keep people from sharing a family plan with friends. But, ironically, I'd trust my friends more to not charge items to me than I do the kids (or their friends playing with their phones, etc..)
@derekGordon: by def'n, the legal terms of being a gapps admin are precisely very different to being a personal gmail user and _thats_ the problem! whether you are grandfathered in or not, the domain admin has different rights and ownership of data within the domain. its not special structuring its just the t&cs!
the problem starts and ends with the fact you're using a product designed for businesses, for your family. while functionally its a 'reasonable' fit, the laws and regulations on data are quite different.
I suspect the only sensible route for stability would be to develop an almost-clone of gapps for business called "gapps for groups|families" that has t&cs around domain manager that are more of an aggregate of personal privacy regulation and shared acceptance of accountability over what the domain admin is capable of doing. for a start they wont have visibilty or control over data owned by people in the group unless specific rights are required (eg to manage child accounts etc).
in fact, this product feature is a clear precursor to exactly that outcome, minus either custom domains, or the fact that gapps IDs cannot be currently assigned into groups.
I've been waiting for this since September and had finally given up on Dec 1st and canceled. Subscription ended on the 6th and now here it is. YAY! I go to resubscribe and guess what: not supported on the apps for my domain that my whole family uses. BOO!
Does anyone know if signing up with a throwaway gmail address and inviting my, my wife's, and my daughter's apps address will work?
'After being in relationship with Wilson for seven years,he broke up with me, I did everything possible to bring him back but all was in vain, I wanted him back so much because of the love I have for him, I begged him with everything, I made promises but he refused. I explained my problem to someone online and she suggested that I should contact a spell caster that could help me cast a spell to bring him back but I am the type that don't believed in spell, I had no choice than to try it, I meant a spell caster called Dr Zuma zuk and I email him, and he told me there was no problem that everything will be okay before three days, that my ex will return to me before three days, he cast the spell and surprisingly in the second day, it was around 4pm. My ex called me, I was so surprised, I answered the call and all he said was that he was so sorry for everything that happened, that he wanted me to return to him, that he loves me so much. I was so happy and went to him, that was how we started living together happily again. Since then, I have made promise that anybody I know that have a relationship problem, I would be of help to such person by referring him or her to the only real and powerful spell caster who helped me with my own problem and who is different from all the fake ones out there. Anybody could need the help of the spell caster, his email: spiritualherbalisthealers@gmail.com you can email him if you need his assistance in your relationship or anything. For those asking if you you get a discount for using google play music sense its start. Isn't the fact that you are getting it for 6 people for a little less than double the normal price. On top of that to my understanding everyone also gets to activate it on 10 devices per user. Yet you are complaining about a discount. Explain to me how you aren't getting a huge discount for getting that many people for that low of price.
Personally, I just want to keep my $7.99/mo price should I decide to return to a solo subscription. So far, it sounds like that won't be possible; so, I don't want to risk changing to a family plan only to have others bail on their share of the cost. There would be no risk if I could at least get my $7.99/mo price back.
I guess one could argue that we were early adopters for Google Music, and well ... the family plan is still for Google Music. :)
Google has been really good with me about getting me back to the $7.99 price. I think my CC has expired twice. When I would go to renew it would be the higher price. I would contact them and they would fix it immediately. I think they might be willing to do the same if you revert back to a single plan.
Why not give the administrator for free Google Apps account the option to enable family plans? Why must it take 3 months to a year to get the same functionality as a consumer gmail account?
Does anyone know if my personal mp3 music collection is available to all family users? I have digitized books on tape etc that my daughter like to listen to. I don't want to have to re upload things for each family member.
Does anyone know if my personal mp3 music collection is available to all family users? I have digitized books on tape etc that my daughter like to listen to. I don't want to have to re upload things for each family member.
So I can't subscribe on a PC, iPad or Amazon Fire? I don't have a dedicated Android device! I love Google Music but can't get the family plan? Is this just temporary?
This is a big fail for those of us who use Google Apps for Work for our families. It's a really big oversight and means that I'll either have to use Apple Music or Spotify until this is sorted out. Fingers crossed that the policy changes soon.
Will there be the possibility to upgrade an account from a Family Plan member to a full personal one, or otherwise transfer from one to another? You can't do this, for example, with Netflix, and it is very annoying!
Hi everyone! I am having great trouble signing up for the family plan with my Canadian credit card. The account seems to lock me out from any purchase. I have both paypal and CC. Anyone else have this issue?
Such a shame, there is no way I'm giving my kids access to my credit card for Play Store, the family manager should have the option to require authorisation for all purchases on the "family card" not just for in-app purchases.
Enabling Family Plan mean that your family can now buy apps, movies, books, etc. on your credit card without any possible restriction. So you won't add your kids and you won't add your older parents. Excellent for a family plan! this is absolutely stupid! I suggest anyone who would like to regsiter to this offer to NOT do so until this mistake has been corrected.
I recommend start using #GOOGLEAPPSFAIL on all your social media accounts. This has really gotten ridiculous. My post: #GOOGLEAPPSFAIL The latest: Google Apps doesn't work with Google Music Family Plans.
I never knew people still have powers and make things happen this way. Started my family plan on my android device......want to add my daughter who uses iPhone/iPad. Will she get YouTube red? I know individual iOS accounts were charged more (13.99? I think) hope that adds will be removed from her iOS YouTube app when she jois the family plan. Anyone know the answer?
I've got a unlimited trial subscription and when I try to upgrade, it brings to my library page without asking to invite anybody nor changing my subscription status to familiy. What's wrong?
Until I can block ANY purchases (not just in-app purchases), I'll never subscribe to this. Also, I would like to be able to link the family account to my Google Balance. Not a credit card. This option seems to be unavailable in Canada.
Okie dokie, here's another question: my wife and I don't mind sharing the accounts, especially at home where it's connected to a multiroom system.
Will a family account allow one account to get around the one concurrent play rule of the regular Google Play Music accounts? As in, if she switches on a Google Play playlist on my account at home and I have Google Family Plan, will it still stop me from playing it on my phone?
I've had my family discovered with GApps for a really, terribly long-standing (long before it had been Google Apps for Business). i actually would like they'd come back up with some style of 'Google MobileApps for Families' as a result of I, too, and extremely thwarted once it involves nice options like this not being accessible. New Mobile World
Yay! I have been waiting for this one!
ReplyDeleteMe too! YouTube Red for the family as well!
Deleteyay for family plans in Canada and sorry we arent worthy enough for Red
ReplyDeleteWait, so there is no Red access as part of Play Music subscription in Canada?
DeleteNot until Red is released in Canada
DeleteYeah hopefully they take into account that you've already saved like $50 and so have essentially gotten about 3 months of this new service for free.
Deletethe discount is implicit through the exchange rate...
DeleteYou have Red Green, isn't that enough?
DeleteUnknown #1. Really brother? You can get 6 family members for the price of 1 and 1/2. And you get YTRed.

Please remove the ads from Youtube music for Gogle Music subscribers again!
ReplyDeleteThe ads came back when you launched Youtube Red which isn't available to me.
You should contact google support, I don't think that should be happening; I haven't been hearing ads after Youtube Red launched.

DeleteKeep your existing individual plan or convert to the family plan at list price.
DeleteHey, thanks to all the hoi polloi for the snark. Still waiting for an official response from the Big G to this question...
DeleteAnd how much will it be in the UK? If YouTube Red were to come to the UK (PLEASE!?), then this would be a really compelling option.
ReplyDeleteI'll sign up in a second when you add YouTube Red for Canada. Until then, nope!
ReplyDeleteI'll second that!

DeleteBrazil, please!
ReplyDeleteYes! I was hoping this new plan would go wolrd wide since day one. It's a bummer since is probably taking a long time to get here in Brazil.
DeleteIf I already have a US unlimited individual subscription, do I need to cancel that first to see a family option?
ReplyDeleteI would like to know the answer to this as well.

ReplyDeleteThe only thing that sucks about this just rolling out is if you just already got charged for the regular subscription amount for this month. So we would have to pay twice for the month.

Nope, it doesn't support setting up a family group or joining an existing family group with a Google Apps account.

DeleteYes this is absolutely frustrating. Please stop treating Google apps users as second class citizens! I /want/ to give you more money!

DeleteLike Chris I've had my family set up with GApps for a very, very long time (long before it was Google Apps for Business). I really wish they'd come up with some sort of 'Google Apps for Families' because I, too, and very disappointed when it comes to great features like this not being available.
DeleteI really don't understand this.
DeleteI shall be (im)patiently waiting in the Google Apps Unlimited corner waiting for my turn to leave the timeout corner....

DeleteWell said Gerald Cox (and others)!

Delete+1 to not screwing over your most loyal users
DeleteGoogle Apps accounts actually work really well for families - everyone likes having their e-mail address being their name for one thing.
DeleteBut if Google really doesn't want people using these accounts for other then work then they should provide a way to move gapps accounts (including history) to regular g-mail accounts.
Same as others, my family are all on my Gapps account from days when it want for business. I'm really keen to access a family account and hope that Google review their decision.
DeleteDang it Google. I just bought a personal subscription (and one for my girlfriend) like a week ago!
ReplyDeletewell cancel one, upgrade the other, and link the 2, then you actually save $5
DeleteWhen will it available in Germany?
ReplyDeleteThis is great news.
ReplyDeleteSpain please.

ReplyDeleteJust tried to upgrade via the music app but it says my account is not supported as I manage my family's email account via Google apps. Please tell me this is an error!?
ReplyDeleteHi Ryan,
DeleteUnfortunately not an error -- you can't create a family group with a Google for Work or Google for Education account.
I also do this - hope we're not excluded!
DeleteYou are I just tried and could not do it either
DeleteI've been an early adopter of Gmail apps and now to be told I cannot upgrade my music account for my family shows huge disloyalty from Google. Shall I head back to Apple iTunes?
DeleteIt's very frustrating being a Google Apps user. The service is always treated as a second citizen. I was very excited about this feature and now will have to reconsider. So frustrating!

DeleteI wonder how this will impact Device Authorization
ReplyDeleteEach family member can authorize up to ten devices. The authorizations are per account, so if you share a tablet with multiple sign ins, each member who uses the device will need to authorize it for their account.
DeleteIs it true that this allows family members to make purchases using my credit card?
ReplyDeletehttps://productforums.google.com/d/msg/play/5VAUQcVed0M/wQKzWZJFCQAJ
Also, Google Music apparently works in Peru. Does the family plan somehow block the service to users outside the announced countries?
The default is that if another family member tries to use the family payment method the family manager will have to approve each specific purchase. So wild teenagers are not a problem.
DeleteYou can change that requirement if you wish.
Are you sure ? Not what it says here
Deletehttps://support.google.com/googleplay/answer/6294544
"Members of your family group can make purchases on Google Play using the family payment method without your approval. You'll get an email notification each time a family member makes a purchase with the family payment method. "
This is an important but if information. From what I'm reading I can lock them out of making unauthorized in app purchases, but they can still use my card to buy all the movies, apps and magazine subscriptions they want without my consent. No way!

DeleteWill early adopters ($7.99/mo in the US) lose our special rate if we decide to leave the family plan later?
ReplyDeleteI'm on the early adopter rate as well and wish we got a discount if we upgrade to the family plan.
DeleteI'd like to know as well.
DeleteDitto.
DeleteMe too!?

ReplyDeleteThis is one strange product announcement - you never bothered to link to any explanations as to how to do this. very odd.
ReplyDeleteSince your Google Apps account is "owned" by the company, not you, there are big issues that would have to be resolved before this could happen.
ReplyDeleteI have been a google apps user since before it was for companies. They should just allow us to turn the feature on or off in the administrator panel.
DeleteMy Google Apps [domain] is owned by me. I don't see any issues here.
DeleteIf they want to get rid of all the "free" users then either provide the means to transition off or create something like a "Google Apps for Families" for us folks to use. I'd gladly pay some sort of reasonable fee, just not as expensive as the Business side.
I am so sick of being blocked from using Google's features because I am a loyal google apps user and running google Apps for almost 10 years.
ReplyDeleteWhat about YouTube red outside us? France ?
ReplyDeleteWhat about YouTube red in France?
ReplyDeleteWill it be in time for Christmas in Norway? It would be a great gift for the whole family!
ReplyDeleteKeep it up :D
I would love it if Google would add the kind of library sharing that Apple does, so when I purchase an album without a monthly subscription, I can share it with my wife as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm in
ReplyDeleteWait, if I do this, my kids can buy unlimited content on Google Play using my payment method and I can't restrict that? Insane. I've been looking forward to this for months, but this is a potential dealbreaker...
ReplyDeleteYou have to authorize every purchase unless you explicitly allow otherwise.
DeleteThe documentation seems pretty clear that in-app purchases work how you describe, but not media/content purchases from the Play Store (books, movies, music, etc)
DeleteI agree, i dont know which product manager came up with this idea, but it has to change
DeleteIs there going to be another announcement when it's actually ready?

ReplyDeleteMy son and husband both have individual Google Music accounts. Will they lose their playlists and thumbs ups if I upgrade to a family plan, they join, and cancel their individual accounts?
ReplyDeleteNope, all of that is maintained at the individual user level.

My view on the puts and takes of this implementation, in points:
ReplyDelete+5 points - Family Plan in Canada!!! Thank you! Wife's and mine subscriptions at $7.99/month each would translate in a saving of $1/m and we can add the kids to the account!
-2 points - No YouTube Red in Canada; ads came back to YouTube too
-1 point - I'll lose my $2 off for signing up at day one
-1 point - Wife will also lose her $2 off for signing up at day one (well, day 2 maybe)
So far, it's worth it. But:
-1000 points - My kids can now purchase Google Play content?!?!? And I can't stop them? Really Google???? Someone tell me I'm not not understanding how that works.
STOP - Now that's a show stopper for us.
I assume it is an attempt to keep people from sharing a family plan with friends. But, ironically, I'd trust my friends more to not charge items to me than I do the kids (or their friends playing with their phones, etc..)
DeleteUgh. Google apps user here too. Can't add a family plan either. Big G, you need to address this asap.

@derekGordon: by def'n, the legal terms of being a gapps admin are precisely very different to being a personal gmail user and _thats_ the problem! whether you are grandfathered in or not, the domain admin has different rights and ownership of data within the domain. its not special structuring its just the t&cs!
Deletethe problem starts and ends with the fact you're using a product designed for businesses, for your family. while functionally its a 'reasonable' fit, the laws and regulations on data are quite different.
Not for my family. Since I pay for a custom domain, I'm not allowed to pay for music.
ReplyDeleteI've been waiting for this since September and had finally given up on Dec 1st and canceled. Subscription ended on the 6th and now here it is. YAY! I go to resubscribe and guess what: not supported on the apps for my domain that my whole family uses.
ReplyDeleteBOO!
Does anyone know if signing up with a throwaway gmail address and inviting my, my wife's, and my daughter's apps address will work?
I just tried this, it doesn't work. You can't even be invited to a family plan from an Apps account. Thanks google!

Anyone having trouble make sure Google Play Services is updated to 8.4
ReplyDeleteThere are no purchase control options for associated family members. That is working as intended I presume. So thanks, but no thanks.
ReplyDeleteSoooo what about us that have the initial $7.99 plan, will we have a discounted family plan also if we just upgrade?
ReplyDelete'After being in relationship with Wilson for seven years,he broke up with me, I did everything possible to bring him back but all was in vain, I wanted him back so much because of the love I have for him, I begged him with everything, I made promises but he refused. ReplyDeleteAny idea when YouTube Red is coming to the UK?
ReplyDeleteHave my Family Plan up and running. Great addition to the Google lineup.
ReplyDeleteMaybe some day after I die my grand kids may get in my country ...
ReplyDeleteWell the good news is that till then there's Apple Music!
DeleteFor those asking if you you get a discount for using google play music sense its start. Isn't the fact that you are getting it for 6 people for a little less than double the normal price. On top of that to my understanding everyone also gets to activate it on 10 devices per user. Yet you are complaining about a discount. Explain to me how you aren't getting a huge discount for getting that many people for that low of price.
ReplyDeletePersonally, I just want to keep my $7.99/mo price should I decide to return to a solo subscription. So far, it sounds like that won't be possible; so, I don't want to risk changing to a family plan only to have others bail on their share of the cost. There would be no risk if I could at least get my $7.99/mo price back.
DeleteI guess one could argue that we were early adopters for Google Music, and well ... the family plan is still for Google Music. :)
Google has been really good with me about getting me back to the $7.99 price. I think my CC has expired twice. When I would go to renew it would be the higher price. I would contact them and they would fix it immediately. I think they might be willing to do the same if you revert back to a single plan.
DeleteWhy not give the administrator for free Google Apps account the option to enable family plans? Why must it take 3 months to a year to get the same functionality as a consumer gmail account?

ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know if my personal mp3 music collection is available to all family users? I have digitized books on tape etc that my daughter like to listen to. I don't want to have to re upload things for each family member.

ReplyDeleteSo I can't subscribe on a PC, iPad or Amazon Fire? I don't have a dedicated Android device! I love Google Music but can't get the family plan? Is this just temporary?
ReplyDeleteThis is a big fail for those of us who use Google Apps for Work for our families. It's a really big oversight and means that I'll either have to use Apple Music or Spotify until this is sorted out. Fingers crossed that the policy changes soon.
ReplyDeleteCan you help add support for this ability:

ReplyDeleteWill there be the possibility to upgrade an account from a Family Plan member to a full personal one, or otherwise transfer from one to another? You can't do this, for example, with Netflix, and it is very annoying!
ReplyDeleteHi everyone! I am having great trouble signing up for the family plan with my Canadian credit card. The account seems to lock me out from any purchase. I have both paypal and CC. Anyone else have this issue?
ReplyDeleteYeah, I only have PayPal and no need for a CC... Apparently my money isn't good enough for Google...
DeleteCan a regular Google account be a family manager and then invite Google for Work accounts as family members?

ReplyDeleteEnabling Family Plan mean that your family can now buy apps, movies, books, etc. on your credit card without any possible restriction.
ReplyDeleteSo you won't add your kids and you won't add your older parents. Excellent for a family plan!
this is absolutely stupid! I suggest anyone who would like to regsiter to this offer to NOT do so until this mistake has been corrected.

Google play music family plan charge 16.04 instead 14.99 on sign up, why is that?
ReplyDeleteStarted my family plan on my android device......want to add my daughter who uses iPhone/iPad. Will she get YouTube red? I know individual iOS accounts were charged more (13.99? I think) hope that adds will be removed from her iOS YouTube app when she jois the family plan. Anyone know the answer?

ReplyDeleteuugh WHEN???
ReplyDeleteuugh WHEN???
ReplyDeleteUntil I can block ANY purchases (not just in-app purchases), I'll never subscribe to this. Also, I would like to be able to link the family account to my Google Balance. Not a credit card. This option seems to be unavailable in Canada.
ReplyDeleteOkie dokie, here's another question: my wife and I don't mind sharing the accounts, especially at home where it's connected to a multiroom system.
ReplyDeleteWill a family account allow one account to get around the one concurrent play rule of the regular Google Play Music accounts? As in, if she switches on a Google Play playlist on my account at home and I have Google Family Plan, will it still stop me from playing it on my phone?
I've had my family discovered with GApps for a really, terribly long-standing (long before it had been Google Apps for Business). i actually would like they'd come back up with some style of 'Google MobileApps for Families' as a result of I, too, and extremely thwarted once it involves nice options like this not being accessible.
