Now try to think how you might feel as a German user... Not just that you (the German) are always have to wait for new features to arrive... In the end they are just a shadow of what is provided in the Eenglish speaking countries. Just use the voice commands for instance ... they are very limited and unflexible compared to the English once. It's like in the old days where you have exactly to know how the command needs to be spoken... No option for a different word order, or a variant of the sentence ...
I find that the most annoying thing of being in Canada is that the US is so close. Just a couple hours drive would bring me to an Android Pay-able place.
It's made to not work on rooted phones. Rooting your phone is a security risk. It means that you have root access to your entire phone, this includes any malicious software as well.
I am stunned how long things announced take to get to handsets. I'm a huge massive Android fan but it is totally miles behind Apple in this (and all my friends will call me the biggest Apple hater).
And I know it's because of various manufacturers, specs, carriers and countries but still if they could be a worldwide update if all specs match a checklist then why does any of the other factors matter. Let Touchwiz, Sense and others catch up and update after instead of waiting they will rush if there software is wiped and stock installed until they update theirs.
It's great to see Android Pay expand outside just the USA. I really hope we can see it in the UK in the near future, there's definitely a good market for it

its becoming really hard to defend android and google when the UK STILL doesn't have Android Pay and Android Wear STILL doesn't have NFC payments. Its staggering that a company as large as Google can get such huge yet simple things wrong. 5 years head start with Google Wallet and Apple are wiping the floor with you. Wonder if anyone at Google actually reads these comments and acts on what their customers want. If we have to wait a year before we see Android Pay in the UK and even longer for NFC payments on smartwatches i may just have to jump ship.
Dear Google, We love your OS, we love your nexuses but hate the fact that you won't bring Android Pay to the UK but will insist on posting about how brilliant it is on the bloody blog. Do yourselves a favour and sort it out.
Ah, pretty disappointing that there's still no mention of a UK release date after I've been following and waiting since the Google wallet days 4 years ago. The wait continues...

The wait for Android Pay to come to the UK is just ridiculous now. I partly blame the banks in the UK's single mindedness about smartphones (iphones iphones iphones - NatWest only just started putting effort into their Android app development) and partly because of Google's evident lack of will and negotiation to break into the market.
This is so annoying. Our phones have had the capability of NFC payment for over 3 years, but support for it has been virtually non-existent. Only EE had Cash on Tap (Orange previously), not that it was ever advertised, and now that has been discontinued. Apple Pay is being advertised everywhere and it makes it look like they were first. Android Pay, if it ever reaches the UK, will look like the copy.
Will Android Pay ever work in reverse? I would like to make an app which involves me, the app author, paying users. I am finding this extremely difficult to find information on. Taking their money is a piece of cake, but giving money to a user without requiring a totally separate account setup on the users end seems to not exist? Why? Will this change? When?
There is definitely a need to have a general purpose NFC interface for other wallet applications but there is no thought within Google to provide such a capability. It is either merchant interface or a bank card compatibility but missing the Android Pay common interface for other 'banking' type apps which means we need to build our own and add another 'tap and go' set of software to the mix. Android Pay should be looking at standardizing the industry around itself and is missing a key element to grow horizontally throughout the mobile payment world.
The lack of Android Pay via NFC on Android Wear is dumb. I have to reach out my arm to the terminal, my watch is on my arm, but NO, I have to go the OPPOSITE direction, reach for my Android phone and then place TWO Android devices near the terminal, the one I had on my wrist already and the big phone too.
The existence of Android Wear, adds a "killer app" reason to both Android Wear and Android Pay, it lowers the awkwardness of reaching for a phone not naturally in your hand when shopping, with the purpose of Android Wear which is to NOT reach for your phone to do common tasks.
As it happens my Android phone doesn't have NFC, my Android Wear devices does have NFC, so I am currently barred from using Android Pay due to Android Wear's lack of Android Pay support.
Thank You !! Awesome Blog. Great knowledge with good concept about Android Development. I would like to share some useful links for Android Interview Questions and Android Tutorial.

ReplyDeleteComeon guys, Canada is not that backwards. We already have NFC accepting terminals and cards all over the place :S
ReplyDeleteIt's not the terminals, it's the banks. Talk to them.
DeleteStill can't be used on a rooted phone.

ReplyDeleteWhat Google really needs to do is find a way to enable MST like Samsung Pay

DeleteDoes Android Pay work on the Google Nexus 5 2013 phone? Because I want to use the tap and pay at my locations?
